The Heartbeat of CottonMil

If you read the 'about' section of my website you probably know some of this already but I wanted to share a little more details of the 'why' behind it.
I was first introduced to the small business world when my oldest daughter was born, I started finding so many small shops on Instagram that had the most adorable baby items. I fell in love immediately and knew I wanted to be a part of it somehow. I loved the stories of Mom's with small businesses teaming with each other and the stories I read of the friendships they have gained through their journey. Along with the desire to be a part of the small business community my desire is also to create some sort of income that I can use to bless others. Although it would be really nice to make enough to buy our family's clothes and maybe have some spending money for myself, my ultimate goal is to be able to give back. I want to help people go on mission trips, or pay for a babysitter for a worn out Momma that just needs a break, I want to be able to do random acts of kindness or help a family adopt a new child. Those are just a few of the many ways I would love to bless others. I currantly have 15% of my profits dedicated to this kind of thing but my goal as I grow is to reach more like 50-75%. My motivation behind CottonMil has never been to make lots of money but rather to create a space online where I can reach other Moms. I know that motherhood can sometimes be lonely and I love that there's an online community that's available without having to bundle all your babies up and go out. Don't get me wrong, I beleive face to face relationships are very healthy and if it's possible you should make it a priority but I know sometimes it's not realistic for whatever reason so I want to create an easily accessible space where moms can go to get encouragement and support.
Motherhood is very near and dear to my heart which is why it's so important for me to keep my family first through this journey. I was feeling myself overdo it through November and early December so I took the month of January off, I didn't do any sewing and I didn't use social media for personal or for my business. (besides logging in once or twice to check messages) It was a wonderful break and I was able to set my priorities for 2018.
It has been taking me a lot longer to get started than I would like it to, I have spent a lot of time sourcing fabrics that are quality, organic, and sustainably made. (I'll be writing another blog post about why it's so important to me to use sustainable, organic fabric) In the past when I have had an idea or a dream I would rush forward and make it happen but then I'd neglect other areas of my life, so my goal for 2018 is to take things slow, to be content with where I am, and to organize my life so I can give my best self to my God, my Family, and my Business.
I wanted to take time to share this with you so you could know the heartbeat of CottonMil and what makes me do what I do, my goal with this business is to be as transparent as I can be and share my journey with all of you who are interested. I want you to feel comfortable supporting my brand and know that by doing so you are making a difference. If you are a small business owner and would like to collaborate in any way please contact me at If you are a mom who needs more friends, follow me on Instagram and shoot me a message,I'd love to meet you! Oh and even if you're not a mom I'd still love to connect with you!:)
